Housing and Homelessness in a Vision Vancouver

In events, workshops on December 13, 2008 at 2:28 am

Tues December 16 | 7pm

a vancouver socialist forum workshop

What are the post-election prospects (and pitfalls) for a mass housing justice movement in Vancouver? New mayor Gregor Robertson has promised to “end homelessness” in Vancouver by 2015, while saying nothing on issues as central to the question as the anti-native racism of the private property housing market and the crippling rental burden borne by Vancouver’s diverse working class.

What do Roberston’s proposals envision for the systemic poverty and other oppressions that underlie homelessness? What place does a Vision-led City Hall have in a movement for housing justice? Join us for an intimate discussion of the underlying concepts and concrete issues of housing in Vancouver.

This event is an opportunity for community activists to exchange perspectives and information as we continue to prepare for the mass housing demonstration before the BC spring election. Following brief introductory remarks we will have an hour for open dialogue and discussion.
